GOOD MORNING WORLD,
Well I know its been a while since I have been able to write, what do you expect when you are a PhD candidate. Well first of all my life has been pretty crazy, I got engaged, got accepted into a local university to begin my upper level studies and have been working my tail off. However, I still have a whole mess of newsy stuffs for you.
VIDEO GAME NEWS
welp.... the XBOX ONE was revealed today, well yesterday for my normal readers but either way the 8th generation of video gaming has begun. Standing under a tent infront of a big screen we got our first look at the new Xbox and oh my look at the features it offers, the ability to share instantly without a capture camera, the ability to synch with your television and oh my the ability to be controlled with your voice. What we didn't see was any major game play footage or any major movement on the game play front at all. As an avid sports gamer I am stoked to hear about the partnership with EA sports. However, THATS NOT WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN A REVEAL. I want to see the specs and I want to see the sheer power that is in the system not gimmicks and social media. I also dont like to hear about the lack of backwards compatibility in the XBOX one.
Looking forward I feel like the major video game conference known as E3 is going to be a big day for developers of the PS4 and XBOX one. After this lackluster reveal from hometown favorite Microsoft I expect E3 to be the make or break moment for the video game giant. I for one will not make my final decision until after E3 but right now I am leaning toward the PS4.
SPORTS NEWS
where to start, where to start. I think the best start would be the NBA. well not the NBA as a whole just this whole, might I say CLUSTERFUCK, that is the David Stern NBA.
For those of you who don't know the city of Seattle was unceremoniously stripped of our NBA team the Seattle Super Sonics (try staying that 5 times fast) in 2008 under False pretenses by David Stern and Scumbag Clay Bennett. Bennett would move the team to Oklahoma city where the Oklahoma City Thunder were born and make it to the NBA finals shortly after there move. Ever since this stripping the city of Seattle have been trying there damnedest to get an NBA team back. Through some divine intervention the city got blessed with the good graces of hedge fund manager Chris Hanson as well as his team, which include Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer as well as the Three Nordstroms. This team somehow managed to fight through the City of Seattle and King County to pass through an arena deal that would place an arena in the SODO district of Seattle, right by Century Link and Safeco Field. This arena has a 5 year memorandum of understanding and when it gets built will be one of the greatest places in the United States to watch a Basketball or hockey game.BUT THEIRS A CATCH. The only way they can break ground on this arena is if they have an NBA team already committed to coming.
Well recently the Sacramento Kings came up for Sale. As soon as Hansen found out he put in a bid to the Maloof family to buy the team for 500 million dollars, making the Kings one of the most expensive teams in the United states. As soon as this news broke Sacramento Mayor and Former NBA STAR Kevin Johnson would burst onto the scene and save the day for the Kings by pulling investors out of his ass and finding a group to match the Hansen bid.
Fast forward a couple weeks and you will see the Board of Governors for the NBA denying the relocation of the Kings to Seattle even after Hansen made his offer 150 million dollars higher than his initial offer, leaving Seattle without a team once again.
All I can do now is speculate but I think that as soon as David Stern pulls his stick out of his ass and retires Seattle will get an NBA team through expansion. I predict by 2016 Seattle has a full time team playing in the Key arena until this basketball Meca is built in SODO.
Now you may be saying to yourself well why is he talking about this he doesn't give two shits about basketball... well your right I dont... but I saw this as a means to pick up an NHL Team in expansion and put Seattle on the Map to become one of the Premier sports cities in the nation.
****Spoilers Sweetie.*****
If the heading didn't give it away this section is about Doctor Who and the Finale of the most recent series therefore I will say once again Spoilers Sweetie.
Okay well for everyone following the most recent series of doctor who alot has happened since
Easter. with the death of Amy and rory, we got a new companion named Clara Oswin Oswald, as well as new friends in Victorian England in Jenny, Strax and Madam Vastra (a homoreptilian). Well in the last episode of the season after a whirlwind of adventures we find ourselves praying for the doctors life in the one place the doctor can not go a planet by the name of TRENZALOR. Trenzalor is where the doctor would finally die, for real without regenerating.
What we would learn in this most recent episode is who Clara was. Clara would turn out to be one of the most interesting characters Moffet has ever written.we would find out Clara has been there since day one of the Doctors Travels and has been broken up into thousands of pieces throughout history without ever remembering who she is. She did this by jumping into the doctors time stream. This is where things start to get interesting, shortly after Clara jumped into the Time stream the Doctor would shortly follow suit and jump into his own time frame... What he would find inside was something that no Whovian would have ever predicted he found ANOTHER FREAKING DOCTOR, played by non-other than world renowned actor John Hurt.
What is interesting about this is now we have two very alive doctors our current one played by Matt Smith and this other one played by John Hurt. What is curious about this is Smiths doctor called Galts doctor the doctor who broke the promise. What this means to me is Galts Doctor is the doctor who locked all the Time lords and Galifrey in the time war against the Daleks.
So what does this new doctor mean for Doctor who. Well with any luck at all this means that we will finally get to see what the Jaws of the Nightmare child is/are and hopefully get to explore the doctors life on an unprecedented level in the 50th.
the wait till November 23rd will be a long one. with the return of David Tennant and Billie piper reprising there roles as 10 and Rose, along with Jenna Louise Colemen, Matt Smith and John Hurt all returning in there roles, the 50th will be a whirlwind of excitement and hopefully alot of good one liners by Matt Smith and David Tennant.
Cant wait for November.
So as the Doctor once said,
"All of time and space; everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where do you want to start?"
This is Erik, and that's my two cents

January 19th, 2013, Meteors, Olympics and the start oh my,, oh my.
Well the inevitable has happened, I decided to start a blog. Well I guess I should introduce myself to you the blog reader. My name is Erik, I am a sophomore in College trying to get my PhD in physics with a lovely Girlfriend named Hannah. I am an avid Colorado Avalanche fan and love almost anything that has to do with hockey or sports in general. Outside of my love of sports and science I also love to play video games, my french horn and watch Doctor Who in my spare time (what little there is in the life of a college student).
Sitting in my living room working on my calculus homework and listening to show tunes. something very curious came to my attention. The local news station ran a story on the city of Seattle being considered to become the American nomination to host the 2024 Olympic games.
As a long time resident of Seattle this is an extremely exciting proposition for my hometown to become the eyes of the world for several weeks. I can only imagine the excitement and the increased energy in my hometown. However, I can also imagine the amount of traffic that will be going through Seattle as well as how hard it will be to get from point A to point B.
Alas, my realism is setting in a bit, We are talking about Seattle here. A city more known for grunge rock and marijuana than being a cultural hub. A city like Seattle can't compare in culture to some of the cities that have hosted the Olympics in the past (Heck! even some of the cities that didn't get the games have more culture than Seattle). Seattle is very vanilla and I don't think in any way shape or form that they will get the greatest games in the history of the world. However, I would love to see what becomes of this situation and if the games do come to Seattle I will be right there cheering on my country.
Ok, NEXT TOPIC!!!!
The next thing I want to talk about is this meteor that hit Russia. As an avid fan of astronomy, this was one of the coolest things that has ever happened in my short pathetic life. not that people dieing and property being destroyed as cool but a meteor is pretty exciting. What I don't understand though is the people who are saying that this is a sign that the world is coming to an end. Come on, its a Meteor we get hit by one this size once every about ten years, and are pelted everyday with millions of meteors the world isn't ending so get over yourself.
OH I ALMOST FORGOT!!!
Happy 540th birthday to Nicholas Copernicus, for those of you who don't know who he is and were just staring at your goggle home page like a dear in the headlights. Copernicus was one of the first scientists to create a system for the solar system where the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around.
Well that's all I have for today and for a first blog I think I am off to a great start. As I get the time and the money I hope to add posts on video game reviews. They will be few and far between but as the amount of people that read this blog increases the number of reviews will increase. Be warned though they wont be recent games I am thinking of doing Halo 4 or Skyrim later on this week. SO, if you are interested in hearing what I have to say about games that will occur on Thursdays or Fridays with blogs Mondays or Tuesdays.
